Mulch: It is a protective covering of the ground. It is not a fertilizer or an amendment, so it should not be mixed with the soil. There are many types of mulch, such as partially decomposed compost, bark remains, wood shavings, straw, shells, leaves, rice husks, etc. Its function is to cover bare soil, to prevent surface runoff, regulate soil temperature, conserve moisture and prevent the growth of weeds due to lack of light. A good mulch supplies nutrients slowly to the soil as it decomposes.
